Mr. Rudra Narayan Mishra has submitted his Ph.D. dissertation in economics, through the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Following a Masters in economics from the University of Hyderabad, he has completed his M.Phil. in Applied Economics at the Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram. His research focus has been on examining nutritional deprivation. His doctoral thesis titled "Under nutrition in India: Dimensions and Correlates" is a follow up of his M.Phil work relating to the same topic. Unlike other forms of deprivation, undernourishment is a complex one with varied origins and therefore interventions also need to be varied. Given this premise, this work brings to the fore immediate correlates of undernourishment that can be intervened for different vulnerable groups like women and children. His work also considers both the dimension of undernourishment in terms of anthropometrics as well as calorie intake. This provides an option of comparing and contrasting of correlates between the two dimensions. Finally, a critical evaluation of dichotomy in measurement of under nutrition is offered to recognise the limitation in its comparison and evaluation.
Mr. Mishra has a sound academic record along with a qualifying certificate of the NET lectureship examination conducted by the UGC. He is a recipient of National Scholarship from Ministry of Human Resource Development for his undergraduation and was awarded ICSSR fellowship during his M.Phil. and doctoral studies. He has presented many research papers in scientific seminars/workshops as in forums like "South Indian Development Convention", "The Indian Econometric Society", "South-East Asian Econometric Society", Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore and Madhya Pradesh institute of Social Science Research. His present research interests include undernutrition, poverty, health, food security, education and human development.
